A WEEKEND IN | Toulouse, the Southern Capital of France

Toulouse is the city that some call the 'Paris' of Southern France. Breathtakingly romantic, with its cobblestone streets and pastel colours. An exotic mix of Tapa's bars, French wines & cakes with tea. We tried to soak up some of the culture & history & were left wanting more.

Toulouse est la ville que certains appellent le Paris du sud de la France. A couper le souffle, romantique, avec ses rues pavées et ses couleurs pastel. Toulouse est un mélange exotique de bars Tapa, de vins français et de gâteaux au thé. Nous avons essayé de nous imprégner de la culture et de l’histoire et nous en avions encore besoin.

Toulouse is the soul of Southern France. The city itself is small and can be covered by foot or bike (if you travel as the locals do). We recommend hiring a local bike for the day. It will only set you back EUR 1.60 & the baskets are perfect for carrying market delicacies. Visit Victor Hugo Market and curate your own picnic. Red wine, pate, prosciutto, cheese... whatever takes your fancy.

If you prefer a sit down meal, visit Le Proscuitteria. Yes, it is italian and yes, it is absolutely delicious! The cheese & charcuterie boards will leave you wanting more.

For a more substantial meal, visit it's sister restaurant Forno Gusto. Truffle, gorgonzola, proscuitto, salami. Mix and max your pizza. However remember to get in quick to secure your table!

Sunday brunch & afternoon tea with coffee is also a staple for your visit to Toulouse. You should know that almost every shop in France will close on a Sunday. To ensure you don't go hungry book your Sunday brunch well in advance.

La Fiancee - stylish coffee & brunch spot with reasonable prices
Le Moderni'the - scrumptious pastries & tea

A personal favourite is flower's cafe. Visit at any time of the day for meringue tarts, pecan pies, creamy caramel, apple crumble & all the other desserts that you could possibly desire. Try the menthe or bourbon tea for a special treat. Cake & tea never tasted this good.

Our weekend in Toulouse felt like a dream.
